4/8/2023 0 Comments Doom 64 wad wadgenWhile only 70-75% accurate or so (the EX port is roughly 90-95% accurate) I do recommend the Doomsday engine Absolution TC from 2003. In ways it is like the true Doom 3 to the original DOS classics, though that's subject to opinion. While I personally think the enemy graphics look kinda crappy I really love the dark and serious atmosphere they've created, it comes to life more-so thanks to Aubrey Hodges' brilliant sound design and unsettling dark ambient score. It has no source code changes which means it will work fine on ECWolf (you'll have to manually load the end/help art files via command line though otherwise you won't get the new storyline screens).ĭoom 64 was kinda panned in its day, possibly for being exclusive to a single console but also for the new art style and direction taken thematically. I'm also a big Wolf3D fan and thoroughly enjoyed AReyeP's Wolfendoom game which serves as a prequel to the events in Doom 1. Though I've only played Doom 3 once on an under-powered PC 6 years ago I have yet to find an iteration of Doom that I didn't like. You should be running Doom on a sourceport anyway! You can download and run the PSX music separate of the port itself here. One thing the PSX version did have was amazingly atmospheric horror music. high quality shovelware to be sure but Doom 64 feels like a legitimate sequel to Doom 2.Īlso, if you ever wanted to try the PSX version of Doom 1, 2 & Final Doom there are also ports of them for GZDoom! I'd mainly recommend it to big fans, as the PC versions were superior. I honestly prefer it far more over Final Doom. Its also unique as it feels a bit more like Quake 1 with a gothic lovecraftian feel instead of the more hellish landscapes of the classic Dooms. Here is a link to the FAQ about the finished project.ĭoom 64 uses all new sprites and features a few new enemies and one new weapon.
